Gaithersburg MD (December 15, 2022) – The Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce (GGCC) awarded Supporting Strategies the 16th Annual Small Business of the Year Award (SBY) on December 8, 2022, as a part of their Annual Celebration Dinner & Awards Ceremony. The award was presented to Supporting Strategies Owner Steve Barber. AJ Nwoga presented the award on behalf of M&T Bank, which sponsors the Small Business of the Year Award.
The Small Business of the Year Award recognizes that small businesses are a vital part of our economy and community. The award is presented to a small business that demonstrates success, community involvement, and excellent customer relations, and is selected by a scoring panel of several GGCC members and prior awardees.
Supporting Strategies provides outsourced bookkeeping and accounting services to businesses in the Gaithersburg-Germantown area and beyond. Formed in 2018 and with the backing of his franchisor, owner Steve Barber, decided to immediately differentiate the Company by developing strong relationships above selling while focusing on larger businesses.
Steve’s consultative and partnership approach to every interaction rapidly grew his business. During COVID, Steve and Supporting Strategies were resources to his community by offering assistance on PPP loan calculations and providing educational workshops to local businesses, both clients and non-clients, free of charge. Post-COVID, Steve made it a priority to get involved with his local community and sponsor a Give-Back campaign, where a portion of every dollar of revenue was donated to a local charity. Steve donates much of his time to sitting on Boards of nonprofits, and facilitating the GGCC’s Mastermind Direct Connect Group.
Because of Steve’s differentiation, focus on his community, and personal and consultative approach, Supporting Strategies has become the premier local outsourced accounting-services provider, now supporting over 150 businesses. Steve has won multiple awards with his franchisor including being the fastest-growing office to achieve President’s Club in 2022, as well as achievements in Client Delight and Growth.
